This family had plenty of fun during their session.

We played games, had tickle fights, and let the kids interact naturally with their parents. One of the funniest moments happened when we discovered that Dad is extremely ticklish.

His daughter quickly realized this and took full advantage of it.

The tickle fights created some of my favorite candid photographs from the evening. Instead of asking everyone to smile at the camera, we gave the kids a chance to interact with their dad and enjoy themselves.

The kids also had fun throwing rocks into the lake to see whose rock could travel the farthest. These simple activities gave us plenty of movement and genuine smiles.

That is one of my favorite things about photographing families outdoors. You don’t need complicated activities to create meaningful photographs. Sometimes a few rocks and a little competition are all you need.
